    Bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS) has proven to be a promising non-invasive technique for fluid monitoring in HD patients. While current BIS-based monitoring of pre- and post-dialysis fluid status utilizes benchtop devices, designed for intramural use, advancements in micro-electronics have enabled the development of wearable bioimpedance systems. Wearable systems meanwhile can offer a similar frequency range for current injection as commercially available benchtop devices. This opens opportunities for unobtrusive longitudinal fluid status monitoring, including transcellular fluid shifts, with the ultimate goal of improving fluid management, thereby lowering mortality and improving quality of life for HD patients. Ultra-miniaturized wearable devices can also offer simultaneous acquisition of multiple other parameters, including hemodynamic parameters. Combination of wearable BIS and additional longitudinal multiparametric data may aid in the prevention of both hemodynamic instability as well as fluid overload. The opportunity to also acquire data during interdialytic periods using wearable devices likely will give novel pathophysiological insights and the development of smart (predicting) algorithms could contribute to personalizing dialysis schemes and ultimately to autonomous (nocturnal) home dialysis. This review provides an overview of current research regarding wearable bioimpedance, with special attention to applications in ESKD patients. Furthermore, we present an outlook on the future use of wearable bioimpedance within dialysis practice.

    Eating disorders (EDs) are complex mental illnesses that require medical, psychological, and dietetic intervention to assist patients achieve recovery.

    Available evidence was reviewed regarding dietetic intervention for adult outpatients with an ED and the quality of this evidence was assessed.

    Systematic literature searches were conducted using 5 databases (MEDLINE, PreMEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, PsycINFO) for studies comparing adults with an ED receiving a dietetic intervention with those receiving a psychological intervention alone, those receiving a combined dietetic and psychological intervention, or a control group.

    Literature searches returned 3078 results, with 10 articles reporting on 9 randomized controlled trials meeting the inclusion criteria. The quality of evidence was assessed using the Cochrane Risk-of-Bias tool and Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) framework.

    In 50 preterm neonates (median gestational age 29.4 weeks), we sampled maternal milk on day-of-life 7, 14, 21, and 28 and measured hormone levels in whole milk by ELISA. Milk leptin levels were available for a subset of 18 infants. We calculated milk hormone doses by multiplying the hormone level by the milk volume ingested on each day and estimated the area under the curve (AUC) to reflect longitudinal exposure. We analyzed associations of milk hormone exposure with growth outcomes in generalized estimated equations.

We characterized changes in transcriptome, translatome and proteome caused by MazF, and proposed that MazF decreases translation directly by cleaving mRNAs, and indirectly, by decreasing translation factors and by promoting ribosome hibernation. Important pathways affected during the early stage of MazF induction were identified MazF increases cell wall thickness and decreases cell division; MazF activates SsrA-system which rescues stalled ribosomes, appearing as a result of MazF mRNA cleavage. These pathways may be promising targets for new antibacterial drugs that prevent bacteria dormancy. Finally, we described the overall impact of MazF on S. aureus cell physiology, and propose one of the mechanisms by which MazF might regulate cellular changes leading to dormancy.

    Headache is considered one of the most frequent neurological manifestations of COVID-19. This work aimed to identify the relative frequency of COVID-19 related headache and to clarify the impact of clinical, laboratory findings of COVID-19 infection on headache occurrence and its response to analgesics.

    Clinical, laboratory and imaging data were obtained from the hospital medical records. Regarding patients who developed COVID-19 related headache, a trained neurologist performed an analysis of headache and its response to analgesics.

    The relative frequency of COVID-19 related headache among our sample was 55.1% with 95% CI (0.516-0.586) for the estimated population prevalence. Female gender, malignancy, primary headache, fever, dehydration, lower levels of hemoglobin and platelets and higher levels of neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and CRP were significantly associated with COVID-19 related headache. Multivariate analysis revealed that female gender, fever, dehydration, primary headache, high NLR, and decreased platelet count were independent predictors of headache occurrence. By evaluating headache response to analgesics, old age, diabetes, hypertension, primary headache, severe COVID-19, steroid intake, higher CRP and ferritin and lower hemoglobin levels were associated with poor response to analgesics. Multivariate analysis revealed that primary headache, steroids intake, moderate and severe COVID-19 were independent predictors of non-response to analgesics.
