Previous studies on B. aromatica used a mass defect-filtering strategy via the ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry and reported the presence of several labdane diterpenoids (LADs). To determine the actual structures of these LADs and investigate their biological activities, seven previously undescribed LADs (aromatin D-J) were isolated from the whole B. aromatica herb. The structures of these isolated compounds were characterized using high-resolution mass spectrometry and extensive 1D and 2D NMR analyses. In addition, the absolute configurations of these compounds were determined by comparing the experimental and calculated electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra as well as using X-ray crystallographic analysis. All isolated compounds were evaluated for their ability to activate adenylate cyclase by measuring the levels of cyclic adenosine 3′,5′-monophosphate (cAMP) in rat ventricular tissue. Aromatin E, F, and J showed moderate activities with an increase in cAMP levels by 67%, 69%, and 64%, respectively, compared with the control group.Natural attenuation processes depend on the availability of suitable electron acceptors. At the megasite Zeitz, concentrations of the main contaminant benzene were observed to increase constantly in the lower aquifer to levels of more than 2.5 mM. This was accompanied by decreasing concentrations of sulphate (SO42-), which has been previously shown to be the main electron acceptor for benzene oxidation at this site, resulting in an electron acceptor-limited, sulphidic benzene plume. Therefore, a field experiment was conducted to stimulate benzene biodegradation by injecting nitrate (NO3-) into the sulphidic benzene plume aiming (i) to recycle sulphate by nitrate-dependent sulphide oxidation, and (ii) to serve as direct electron acceptor for benzene oxidation. Within 60 days, 6.74 tons sodium nitrate (NaNO3) were injected into the lower aquifer, and the resulting biogeochemical effects within the benzene plume were monitored for more than one year by chemical and microbiological analyses of groundwater samples in the sulphidic, sulphate-depleted benzene plume due to microbial oxidation of reduced sulphur species, leading to presumably favored conditions for in situ benzene biodegradation.

    Systematic review and meta-analysis.

    We searched key databases and trial registries to September 2020, using terms synonymous with ’neck pain‘ and ‚biofeedback‘. We included randomised controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating biofeedback (against any comparison) for adults with neck pain. Outcomes included pain, disability, work ability and adverse events. Two authors independently selected the studies, extracted data, and evaluated risk of bias. GRADE was applied to each meta-analysis. Data were pooled using random-effects models to determine the standardised mean change (SMC).

    We included 15 RCTs (n=990). Moderate-quality evidence suggests biofeedback has a moderate effect on reducing short-term disability (SMC=-0.42, 95%CI 0.59 to -0.26, nine trials, n=627), and a small effect on reducing intermediate-term disability (SMC=-0.30, 95%CI 0.53 to -0.06, five trials, n=458). Biofeedback had no effect on pain or work ability in the short- and intermediate-term (low-to moderate-quality evidence). One study reported headaches in 6.7% of participants, but headache frequency was not reported by group.

    There were a variety of control interventions across studies. Few studies compared biofeedback with no treatment or placebo.

    To prospectively study the prevalence of benign epileptiform variants (BEVs) and their impact on epilepsy misdiagnosis.

    Consecutive patients, older than one year, who underwent EEG from January 2016 to December 2019 were prospectively studied for the presence of BEVs. We used descriptions of Klass and Westmoreland (1985) to categorize the BEVs. We reviewed old EEG reports and records in patients with BEV to determine whether they were interpreted as abnormal.

    Of the 1862 subjects included, 1474 (79 %) patients had epilepsy while 388 (21 %) had other diagnoses. The mean age of the subjects was 23.1 ± 15.3 years and 1111 (60 %) were males. BEVs were noted in 223 (12 %) subjects undergoing EEG. The most common BEVs were wicket waves (n = 127, 6.8 %) and small sharp spikes (n = 69, 3.7 %) while 6 Hz spike-wave discharges (0.9 %), 14 and 6 Hz positive spikes (0.6 %), rhythmic mid-temporal theta burst of drowsiness (0.4 %) and subclinical rhythmic epileptiform discharges in adults (0.2 %) were less common. Patients with BEVs were older and were more likely to have normal EEG (68.2 % vs. 55.8 %; p < 0.001). BEVs were not mentioned in any of the 282 previous EEG reports. BEVS were considered to be over-interpreted as epileptiform abnormalities in 31 of 101 (30 %) records available for review.

BEVS are largely unrecognized and are misdiagnosed as epileptiform discharges in one third of the patients by the general neurologists.This long-term open-label extension (OLE) trial was conducted to evaluate the long-term safety and tolerability of brivaracetam (BRV) at individualized doses in patients with epilepsy and focal (partial-onset) or generalized onset seizures, or Unverricht-Lundborg disease (ULD). A secondary objective was to evaluate efficacy of BRV in the subgroups of patients with focal or generalized onset seizures. Patients with epilepsy were eligible to enroll in this OLE (N01125; NCT00175916) and were analyzed if they had completed a previous double-blind BRV trial (N01114 [NCT00175929], N01252 [NCT00490035], N01254 [NCT00504881], N01187 [NCT00357669], and N01236 [NCT00368251]), and were expected to obtain a reasonable benefit from long-term BRV treatment. Patients entered the OLE at the BRV dose recommended at the end of the previous trial, with dose adjustments of BRV and concomitant antiseizure medications permitted. Safety variables included treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs). Efficacy variables in patients witeported TEAEs, 60 (63.8 %) had a drug-related TEAE, and 16 (17.0 %) discontinued due to a TEAE. In patients with focal seizures, the median reduction in focal seizure frequency from Baseline was 43.1 % (n = 728), the 50 % responder rate was 43.6 % (n = 729), and 6- and 12-month seizure freedom rates were 22.2 % and 15.8 %, respectively (n = 595). Overall, BRV was well-tolerated as long-term adjunctive therapy in patients with focal seizures, generalized onset seizures, or Unverricht-Lundborg disease, with improvements in focal seizure frequency maintained over time.Targeted Auger Therapy represents great potential for the therapy of diseases which require a high degree of selectivity on the cellular level (e.g. for therapy of metastatic cancers). And nine new phenylpropanoid-conjugated pentacyclic triterpenoids, along with twenty-two known compounds were isolated from the whole plants of Leptopus lolonum. The structures of these new compounds were unequivocally elucidated by HRESIMS and 1D/2D NMR data. All triterpenoids were screened for their cytotoxicities against four cancer cell lines including HepG2, MCF-7, A549 and HeLa. Among these isolates, the triterpenoid with a phenylpropanoid unit showed increasing cytotoxicity on cancer cells, which suggested the importance of the phenylpropanoid moiety.A growing body of research on community gerontology suggests that interventions in the neighborhood may promote older adults‘ wellbeing. Drawing on Costello’s community (2014) and phenomenology of atmosphere, we examine contextual moderators of the relationship between neighborhood quality and older adults‘ mental wellbeing in high-density urban areas. We used mixed methods. Quantitative data were collected from 601 community-dwelling adults over age fifty, using a comprehensive measure of neighborhood perception, which includes neighborhood cohesion, friendship and the physical environment.
